Specialty RN Fellow Programs

Why Specialty RN Fellow Programs?

Nurturing a loyal workforce of professional nurses means preparing them for success in their chosen area of nursing practice. When senior nursing students were asked about choosing an employer, support for a career pathway was #2 of 8 factors, higher than salary or benefits. In a study of experienced nurses, education was #2 of 10 benefits they wanted but weren’t receiving.

As long-term retention of great nurses becomes an increasing concern in every specialty area, these problems are exacerbated where recruitment and retention are already challenging, and older, experienced nurses are retiring.

While every facility has an Orientation for its new nurses, few have longer-term Programs structured and staffed to meet the complex and evolving demands of developing nurses in multiple specialties.

The TruMont Specialty RN Fellow Programs are based on recommendations and evidence gathered over 15 years by the The National Academy of Medicine; the Joint Commission; National Council of State Boards of Nursing; the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; and multiple professional nursing organizations. Those findings were complemented with many years of experience by the TruMont leadership, falculty, subject matter experts, and clinical practice experts developing and implementing successful educational programs that resulted in recruitment and retention wins for over 100 healthcare organizations.

Based on the latest literature on evidence-based practice, the Specialty RN Fellow Programs are designed to develop expert nurses in 5 specialty practice areas while cultivating their leadership and patient advocacy. The Specialty RN Fellow Programs serve as a key strategy in attracting and retaining talented nursing staff to meet facility demands.

TruMont’s Specialty RN Fellow Programs

Career development past the first year of nursing is critical to the long-term retention of nurses. Our specialty programs cultivate the knowledge, skill, and passion of the nurse, resulting in care givers who are prepared to provide excellent patient care in their specialty and to become Preceptor and Mentors for future cohorts.

To create the Specialty RN Fellow Programs, TruMont brought together respected educators, clinical practice experts, and health policy experts to address strategies that would retain and develop nurses while preparing them with the latest evidence-based practice. Using the knowledge gathered, TruMont created a blended learning experience that combines on the job experience with online education modules to help create confident and competent nurses in their specialties.
