Prepare the Experienced Nurse to:
A Preceptor and/or Mentor may be assigned to any Learner in a TruMont Program. A Preceptor and a Mentor are always assigned to each Learner in the Residency and Apprenticeship Programs.
Well prepared Preceptors and Mentors are key to the successful transition of new nurses and to the continued development of the nursing staff.
Preceptors and Mentors participate in the same Preceptor/Mentor Program so they can learn from each other as well as from their own TruMont Faculty Coach.
The Program has three components:
(1) The 8-hour Preceptor/Mentor Development Course that offers the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the role of Preceptor or Mentor.
They learn what is needed to help the new nurse successfully manage the struggles and challenges of transitioning to a new culture, new specialty, new job and/or new profession.
2) The Preceptor & Mentor are supported by a TruMont Faculty Coach who is available by Virtual Office Hours and email communications.
Preceptor/Mentor Cohort Conferences are hosted by their TruMont Faculty Coach for continued development and debriefing throughout the precepting/mentoring experience.
(3) The Preceptor and Mentor have access to the suite of clinical, culture and leadership modules used by the new graduate so they can better understand the new nurse's experience.
Being a Preceptor, offers the experienced nurse an opportunity for lifelong learning and another step toward recognition as a leader and expert nurse.
For the Mentor, the experience offers an opportunity to powerfully impact patient care by supporting other nurses.
Acknowledgement by peers, providers and hospital leadership as an expert and nurse leader can build strong bonds with the organization and improve the Preceptor's and Mentor's satisfaction of job and career.

Successful Preceptor & Mentor Traits are examined:
TruMont Leadership Development Programs are blended learning experiences with both online and onsite education and support.
TruMont provides structure, curriculum, online learning modules, skills to be completed and competencies to be achieved. Curriculum is evidence-based and can be customized with hospital and/or department specific course material.
TruMont Faculty Coaches support through emails and Virtual Office Hours. Their availability is not limited to day shift, but occurs throughout the 24 hour day, weekdays and weekends.
Preceptor/Mentor Cohort Conferences are hosted by TruMont Faculty Coaches to provide an opportunity for peer interaction.
Onsite, the Learner is supported by the Unit Manager, the Onsite Coordinator and key players as identified by the hospital.
The Onsite Coordinator, often a nurse educator, is the hospital’s TruMont liaison. A TruMont Faculty Coach is available to the Onsite Coordinator to discuss any aspect of the program.
All TruMont Programs are delivered on a cloud-based platform provided by Brightspace, an industry-leading, learning management system.
The TruMont platform allows us to provide programs that are cost-effective and easily client-customized. While content is evidence-based and can be used in any hospital, the TruMont platform supports flexibility to customize content to meet the specific needs of the hospital.
The Learner enjoys maximum flexibility and mobility to complete learning assignments in their own time, at their own pace, and anywhere the web is available.
The TruMont platform supports any mobile device that has a Chrome or similar browser. The Program components are accessible regardless of time of day or day of week.
TruMont Learners create a cloud-based Professional Portfolio to complete journaling activities and to document TruMont coursework, other educational achievements, certifications, personal committee work, research involvement, professional organization involvement and volunteer work. The cloud-based document is available to the nurse indefinitely.
Designed to support competency-based learning, Dashboards can be viewed at any time by the Learner and all persons involved in the learning experience.
